If the diagnosis is certain an individual treatment plan will be created for you. The examining doctor as the contact person usually communicates this to you.

The following diagnostics are available for this:

  • Laboratory tests of the thyroid-specific and relevant parameters in the blood
  • High-resolution sonography of the thyroid / cervical soft tissue including Doppler sonography
  • Scintigraphy of the thyroid using 99mTc, 123I and 99mTc-Tetrofosmin/-MIBI

What you should consider before the examination:

Fasting is only necessary in individual cases (e. g. calcium stimulation test).

If you have received drugs containing iodine such as contrast agents, amiodarone or similar, please inform the attending physician on the day of your appointment.

If a scintigraphy is planned and you are taking thyroistatic medication (such as carbimazole, thiamazole or propycil) or perchlorate, the medication should be discontinued 3 days in advance.

If a calcium stimulation test is planned: appear on an empty stomach (no food for 12 hours, drinking water is allowed); Medication to protect the stomach (e. g. pantoprazole, nexium, etc.) must not be discontinued two days in advance. Increased calcium intake (e. g. bananas, milk, calcium effervescent tablets) as well as sport exercises, coffee and alcohol must be avoided from the day before.
Please bring along any existing thyroid-related preliminary findings including images and laboratory values.
